Ahoy!

Welcome to my new photoblog, Mystery Ships Of The Great Lakes. The images that will comprise this blog are believed to have been taken on the St. Claire River between 1946 and 1952. Long forgotten freighters, tugs and other ships will glide out of the past. Unfortunately, their names are not readily apparent. Thus, I seek your help in identifying these "Mystery Ships Of The Great Lakes."

This won't help if the names aren't visible, but I think anybody interested in this blog will like it.

Last year I took a 2-day sailboat trip from the Michigan thumb to Detroit. Lake Huron to the St Clair River to Lake St Clair to the Detroit River.

On board was the book Know Your Ships - Guide to Boats & Boatwatching
Great Lakes & St. Lawrence Seaway
.

We passed dozens of big boats (they ARE called boats on the lakes) and every one could be found in the book.

Several were from the 1920s, one was 100 years old!

Fun stuff! Check out BoatNerd.com for more.

Hi Jeff!

Thanks for the tips! I have been to boatnerd.com and it is indeed a great site.

Unfortunately, the names are not visible in many of the photos. The photographer appears to have had a difficult time properly photographing the ships.
