M.S. Riverdore

Who am I?

Thanks to Yvon from Fort de France (Martinique) and Bruce from Aberdeen, Scotland who agree that the ship is most likely the M.S. Riverdore. The cargo ship was built in 1958 by William Gray and Company Ltd. of West Hartlepool, England. The ship was scrapped in 1982. If you would like to see an additional picture of the M.S. Riverdore, please click here.

ookpik---So many of these photographs appear to be taken at the same location judging by the trees in the background of several of the shots.
Do you know if they were taken on Belle Isle by the Coast Guard station where so many boat buffs still set up their cameras?

Hi Rock,

The majority of the photos were indeed taken from the same place! Per notes left by the original photographer, they were taken in St. Clair, Michigan. According to an e-mail I received, we are looking at Courtright, Ontario and in particular, the property of the Cargill Salt facility. The photo of the Shenango II was taken from Belle Isle.

It is indeed the M.V.Riverdore owned by the London/Greek Co. Michalinos. I did my first trip to sea on her as an engineer and served two years. Happy days she was a beautifull ship I miss her today.

I sailed on mv Riverdore in the late sixties, early seventies. The trip was ten months
long. I was the Radio Officer on board. We went to North and South America,
South Africa and Australia and back to Newcastle. Our captain was Captain Tock. I
think of my time on the Riverdore with fond memories.
