M.S. Riverdore
Who am I?
Thanks to Yvon from Fort de France (Martinique) and Bruce from Aberdeen, Scotland who agree that the ship is most likely the M.S. Riverdore. The cargo ship was built in 1958 by William Gray and Company Ltd. of West Hartlepool, England. The ship was scrapped in 1982. If you would like to see an additional picture of the M.S. ookpik---So many of these photographs appear to be taken at the same location judging by the trees in the background of several of the shots.
Do you know if they were taken on Belle Isle by the Coast Guard station where so many boat buffs still set up their cameras?

Hi Rock,
The majority of the photos were indeed taken from the same place! Per notes left by the original photographer, they were taken in St. Clair, Michigan. According to an e-mail I received, we are looking at Courtright, Ontario and in particular, the property of the Cargill Salt facility. The photo of the Shenango II was taken from Belle Isle.
It is indeed the M.V.Riverdore owned by the London/Greek Co. Michalinos. I did my first trip to sea on her as an engineer and served two years. Happy days she was a beautifull ship I miss her today.
I joined the Riverdore as Radio Officer and sailed we sailed from London to Bermuda,Port as Prince,Dominican Republic,Kingston and loaded phosphate for the UK at Port Sulphate,New Orleans.Our next trip was from Sunderland toLibya with steel oil pipes to transport oil from the wells inland to the yet to be built refinery at Mersa el Brega. Before I joined the ship had been to the Great Lakes where the picture shown was taked. I have a good photo and will post this to your web as soon as I put my hand on it
I sailed on mv Riverdore in the late sixties, early seventies. The trip was ten months
long. I was the Radio Officer on board. We went to North and South America,
South Africa and Australia and back to Newcastle. Our captain was Captain Tock. I
think of my time on the Riverdore with fond memories.
